ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Our highly experienced root canal team can stop your tooth pain quickly

Endodontic treatment – also known as root canal treatment – is a complex and  often highly involved procedure. At Vidadent we carry out this type of  treatment as well, and our practices are equipped to provide the most comfortable and  pleasant experience to our patients as possible.

Because our team of talented  endodontic specialist solely perform this procedure, they are all experts in  their field and are capable of dealing with even the most complex of cases.

Initially the symptoms can be mild, such as  sensitivity to hot or cold, or both, or possibly discomfort when you bite. We  recommend that if you have toothache or any of these symptoms, you should see  your dentist for an x-ray and diagnosis. Doing nothing should not be an option.

In order to understand what Endodontic Treatment or Root Canal Treatment is, it helps to know something about the anatomy of a tooth.

Teeth have several layers.

  • The outside layer of the tooth is composed of a hard layer called Enamel .
  • The Dentine layer which is protected by the Enamel layer has at its center a soft tissue known as the Pulp .
  • The Pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue that are responsible for forming the surrounding Dentine and Enamel during tooth development. The Pulp receives its nutrition supply from vessels which enter the end of the root.

Although the Pulp is important during development of the tooth, it is not necessary for function of the tooth. The tooth continues to be nourished by the tissues surrounding it even after the pulp is removed.

Frequently asked questions about endodontics

Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or damaged due to deep cavities, cracks, trauma, or dental disease. This treatment relieves pain and the spread of infection, and ultimately saves a tooth that would otherwise require extraction. After the procedure, the tooth will be restored in appearance and functionality by our highly skilled dental team.

Doctor will remove the infected tissue inside your tooth and clean the root canal system to prevent infection from coming back. Specialist will use a microscope to inspect the tooth thoroughly and fill the root canal system with a special rubber material.

Most root filled teeth require a porcelain cover and you will be referred back to your dentist for this procedure.

The procedure should feel no different to having a filling. There may be some tenderness when your local anaesthetic wears off, but usually this can be easily managed with painkillers.
